Young Thug's eccentric musical and fashion style has him credited with revitalizing hip-hop. He then released the mixtape Beautiful Thugger Girls in 2017, which departed from the trap-inspired inflections of his previous work, featuring more mellow sounds and pop compositions, and was critically praised, debuting at number eight on the Billboard 200. It contained the double-platinum single "Pick Up the Phone", and enjoyed resounding critical success, often cited as one of the albums of the year. Soon after, Young Thug released the mixtape Jeffery (2016). He then released Slime Season 3 soon after, which enjoyed generally positive critical reception, and peaked at number eight on the Billboard 200.
